Who I am
I am Nazim Lokhandwala, a licensed financial strategist and the founder of Defensive Financial Planning. My practice rests on one belief: the best offense is a strong defense. I help families, professionals, and business owners protect what they have built, use the tax rules that apply to them, and plan retirement income meant to last.
I work from offices in Fairfax and Sterling, Virginia, and am licensed in Virginia, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, Texas, Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee.
How I work
- Defensive first. Protect what you have before chasing what you do not.
- Tax-aware. Look at how each dollar of retirement income is taxed, not only how much there is.
- Long-term partnership. Plans reviewed over years, not a one-time transaction.
How the guides on this site are made
The Resources section is educational. Every guide follows the same standards:
- Primary sources. Figures come from the IRS, the Social Security Administration, and Medicare.gov / CMS, and each guide lists its sources at the bottom.
- Dated. Each guide states its tax year and the date it was last reviewed.
- Open questions are labeled. Where the rules are unsettled or depend on your plan, the guide says so rather than guessing.
- Not advice. The guides explain the rules. They are not tax, legal, or investment advice for your situation.
